Peterborough Martial Arts Videos
Johnson’s TaeKwonDo & Leadership Academy of Cary, North Carolina traveled over 4 hours to Washington DC on May 8th to participate in the SOny Pictures/Six Flags “Karate Kid Challenge” The call-out was for all karate senseis and students to put together a routine to promote the movie The Karate Kid with Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. Our instructors at Johnson’s TaeKwonDo are always challenging students to step out of their comfort zones and challenge themselves. We did that this weekend, and we had a blast doing so. We are more than just your local karate school Morrisville, Apex, and Cary, North Carolina is always trying to show its students
DVDs are a great way to have training on tap to back up your normal weekly training and a chance to see how other instructors do forms or interpret movements. You should also try to expand your knowledge and experience in your art and also get to know about other people’s art so you understand what is out there.

Evolution Taekwondo has evolved to cater for a wide range of people’s needs – anti-bullying, olympic sparring, learning a new Life-Skill or simply wanting to try Recreational Martial Arts. The Club was established in 2003 and has grown to become a school that has over 160 child and adult members based at Peterborough Martial Arts Academy.

Senor Instructor David Trower says:
“The most common reason for training that I hear is that people want to have fun and get in better physical condition, whether that is losing weight, getting stronger or just getting more active. Martial arts is a great way to get in shape and can be really fun to learn. It will improve endurance, strength, flexibility, speed, coordination, balance and helps with overall stress levels. While all martial our training involves some amount of physical training, our programmes are great to try for overall physical fitness.”
“The second most common reason for studying martial arts is self defense; a very valid and important reason for learning. Our Taekwondo programmes teach excellent self defense, with techniques that work! Thanks to an increased presence in movies and television, a rapidly growing reason for training is for the flashy high kicks, which combines martial basics with difficult jump kicks, flips and speedy hand combinations, done primarily for competitions. Our sport specific programmes have a sport focus and teach a traditional & modified version of a traditional art, While competition is not the main feature of our academies, we have specific classes tailored for Sport Taekwondo Sparring.”
With over 30 classes a week for different age groups and abilities, Evolution Taekwondo takes pride in the quality of tuition and the welfare of its students. The Club is very friendly and actively encourages all family members to try Taekwondo.
Prior to joining we recommend that everyone should try a free, one-to-one introductory lesson. This can be arranged by calling us on 01733 235230 or visit us to have a chat; we are based at Shrewsbury Avenue, Woodston, PE2 7BU (5 mins from Serpentine Green, Hampton), close to Big Sky Adventure Playground.
Everyone is welcome.

Taekwondo Skills Boosted By Computer Games

Taekwondo-Old Games meet New Games!
Manchester has a great taekwondo training facility and it’s come to light that the guys and girls are using computer games in their bid for medals at the 2012 London Olympics!
Quite a few of the martial arts athletes have their homes and apartments around the training facility and are encouraged to take a break from their normal skills training to play computer martial arts games.
“We know it keeps the mental agility there and it’s good for hand-eye coordination.” This was by Des Blackburn, who is now the performance analyst for British Taekwondo.
Tyrone Robinson, 22, one of the medal hopefuls training at the British team’s elite performance academy said “I’m never going to be able to throw fireballs in the ring like the characters in Street Fighter IV, but I can still try some of the crazy kicks they do!”
Normally Tyrone spends his time combining weight training, general conditioning and specific taekwondo drills and just uses the computer games for relaxation.
Sarah Stevenson won Britain’s first Olympic taekwondo medal at last year’s Beijing Games, claiming a bronze in the over-67-kg category. Tyrone Robinson qualified for Beijing but failed to win a place on the team – when asked about this he replied “I’m wounded. It would have been a massive thing. But I’m okay now.”
Robinson, who won an under-58kg bronze medal at last year’s European championships in Rome, said he had taken up taekwondo at the age of seven because he liked fighting.
“My uncle had his own club and my dad just took me along. I enjoyed it,” he said. “I used to play football, it was football and taekwondo. When I was 16 or 17 I used to win a lot and I thought: ‘I’m pretty good at this’.”
Winning a medal in Beijing has been a priority for the British team. As the host nation, Britain will have four automatic medal spots at the 2012 London Games.
