Japanese Jujutsu has a long history often clouded in mis-information from secrecy of schools and destruction of historical information through war.
Today, the systems of unarmed combat that were developed and practiced during the Muromachi period (1333–1573) are referred to collectively as Japanese old-style jujutsu, Nihon koryu jujutsu). At this period in history, the systems practiced were not systems of unarmed combat, but rather means for an unarmed or lightly armed warrior to fight a heavily armed and armored enemy on the battlefield.
In battle, it was often possible for a samurai to be unable to use his long sword, for various reasons, and be forced to rely on his short sword, dagger, or bare hands. When fully armored, the effective use of such “minor” weapons necessitated the employment of grappling skills.
These techniques were developed around the principle of using an attacker’s energy against him, rather than directly opposing it, and came to be known as jujutsu.
Methods of combat (as just mentioned above) included striking (kicking and punching), throwing (body throws, joint-lock throws, unbalance throws), restraining (pinning, strangulating, grappling, wrestling) and weaponry. Defensive tactics included blocking, evading, off-balancing, blending and escaping. Minor weapons such as the tanto (dagger), ryufundo kusari (weighted chain), kabuto wari (helmet smasher), and kakushi buki (secret or disguised weapons) were almost always included in Sengoku jujutsu.
Today, jujutsu is still practiced both as it was hundreds of years ago, but also in modified forms for sport practice. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, for example, is a modified version of some original Japanese jujutsu schools. It is like Judo but with even greater emphasis on ground fighting. It is also called Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, after its founders. Read more about the history and styles of jujutsu here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jujutsu
Kings School of Martial Arts
http://www.ksoma.co.uk/
If you like a fairly traditional base, but a bit more realistic – then you could try Kings School of Martial Arts where Paul King runs an excellent version of Kempo Goshin Jutsu and Jujitsu and has the support of high grade traditional martial artists.
“The martial arts system we teach has evolved from these traditional forms of combat, taking what is applicable to the modern day world and modern day situations and combining this with modern day concepts from arts such as Kempo or Kenpo providing effective self defence, combat skills, knife defence, stick defence, weapon defense, using striking techniques, pressure points, wrist locks, joint locks, throws and atemi strikes. Our aim is to promote the quality and accessibility of the art of Jujitsu, and the Kempo Jujitsu we teach is taught for self defense purposes only.”

Peterborough Freestyle Jujitsu Club
http://www.peterboroughjujitsu.co.uk/
At Peterborough Freestyle Jujitsu Club we teach modern JuJitsu techniques with inspiration and guidance from traditional JuJitsu and other arts. Because we are freestyle, we are not restricted to a single style of form of JuJitsu, and are free to utilise any and all arts to adapt our martial art into a more effective form. We are affiliated with the above School.
We like to mix it up with Muay Thai for an effective boxing and kickboxing form.
We use traditional JuJitsu for locks, throws and takedowns.
And modern JuJitsu for groundwork and grappling.
Overall our style is a well adapted and highly effective form of traditional martial arts, focusing on working JuJitsu techniques but not afraid of modifying the style to suit any situation.
