Goshin Jutsu
Goshin Jutsu Clubs
in Peterborough
Goshin Jutsu ‘body protection art’ can have many interpretations depending on the basis of the originating art. For instance, people locally know my very hard style of Youshiki Goshinjutsu which integrates full contact and pressure points.
Kodokan Goshin Jutsu, which is based around a set of prearranged self-defence forms in Judo is the most recent kata of Judo, having been created in 1956. It incorporates techniques from aikido through the influence of Kenji Tomiki and several old fashioned techniques to defend oneself from: unarmed attack, attack with a dagger, with a stick, and with a gun. This type of traditional style based around Judo is still perpetuated in Peterborough by Seishin Budo at: Ailsworth Judo and Goshin Jutsu Club

“We train in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere. Originally from Japan, Goshin Jutsu is a self-defence martial art style involving locks, throws, punches and kicks, focusing on the development of good, fluent techniques as well as fostering personal development through training. New students (beginners or advanced) very welcome.”

If you like a fairly traditional base, but a bit more realistic self defence – then you could try Kings School of Martial Arts where Paul King runs an excellent version of Kempo Goshin Jutsu and Jujitsu and has the continual support of high grade traditional martial artists. Paul now runs most of his classes from the full time Martial Art Studio at Werrington
“The martial arts system we teach has evolved from these traditional forms of combat, taking what is applicable to the modern day world and modern day situations and combining this with modern day concepts from arts such as Kempo or Kenpo providing effective self defence, combat skills, knife defence, stick defence, weapon defense, using striking techniques, pressure points, wrist locks, joint locks, throws and atemi strikes. Our aim is to promote the quality and accessibility of the art of Jujitsu, and the Kempo Jujitsu we teach is taught for self defence purposes only.”

However, I notice many interpretations and mixtures of goshin. Today, people must employ a host of personal awareness methods in their Adult Self Defence as well as a set of SIMPLE, powerful, practical, self protection skills to pre-empt and repel the many different types of attacks and confrontations that (rarely for most people) may occur in everyday places and situations…… where they have let their guard down and let violence in!
Sadly, alot of traditional martial arts, and increasingly sports orientated martial arts, fail to move into this requirement to combat being a victim.jutsu and traditional martial arts. Most recent I came across was on http://chinatownhawaii.com discussing:
William K.S. Chow Founder – Grandmaster William K.S. Chow’s style of Kempo is called “Dian Hsuhe GoShin Jutsu Kenpo-Kai” or “Chinese Kempo” or “Karaho”.
Go Shin Jitsu or as follows – Goshinjutsu, Goshin Ryu , Goju Ryu, KyoKushin, Kosho Ryu Kenpo is a term which is used to refer to the hardstyles of Karate. As we know, Kenpo is of the hard styles and Kempo is of the hard and soft style that was created by the Great GrandmasterWilliam K.S. Chow also known as “the Thunderbolt”, but to some of theold students and friends he was simply the “Professa”. The present daysystems and most which mirrors American Kenpo Karate actually evolvedfrom the harder and powerful Kenpo Karate which was also taught byGrandmaster Chow of Honolulu.
Chow believed in the development of mindand body and concentrated on “the parts of your body that will beusually used in combat or self defense situations”. Chow’s was thedevelopment of his hands, his knuckles were proof. The creativity was and is the original from the combining of Kenpo, Kung Fu, Jujitsu, Luaand a sprinkling of effective techniques from other arts to make upthe bases for the Hawaiian Kenpo or Hawaiian Go Shin Jitsu Kenpo, thusthe Chinese Kempo is created.
