They did all that formal stuff ... about bowing onto the mat, bowing off, and ... there were a few things that really pissed me off 1) I will not call some dude a "master". Sorry. I just won't. I also feel the same way about sensei. 2) The daughter of the "sensei" dude who was also a blackbelt, when speaking to her father, didn't call him "dad" .. no ... she called him "sensei". That really really freaked me out! 3) I nearly fainted when I was told that if in the middle of my training I wanted to use the loo, I needed to ask permission from the sensei and bow off the mat? So you want me to pay hundreds of pounds just so I can go back to primary school levels of being controlled? No thanks. It's 2010. Take out the sensei bit. Stop calling people masters (I'll decide whom I want to make my master - if anyone). People pay to come to your dojo to learn how to fight. Teach them. If they want to go to pee, don't make them ask like little children. It's for that reason that I won't spend money to join a club that makes one pay to be humiliated!
